To Our Valued Lake Havasu City Community Members,
In March 2020, Mayor Sheehy requested that a team be created to coordinate assistance to the community due to the COVID-19 crisis. The LHC Resource Alliance was born through the strategic thinking of then Vice Mayor David Lane, and over the last 11 months, we have worked tirelessly to get our community the support they needed.
The LHC Resource Alliance, housed by the City of Lake Havasu and comprised of the Lake Havasu Area Chamber of Commerce, Havasu Community Health Foundation, River Cities United Way and Better Business Bureau, will remain a united force for good in our community.
Through River Cities United Way we received donations of over $333k, including the $250k from the CARES Act City contribution, and with these funds we supported 80 businesses and 226 individuals. An additional 18 businesses received funding from the BBB Main St. Matters Grant. This money was absolutely vital to these businesses to keep their doors open. The CARES Act and BBB grant opportunities are now closed, as funding has been exhausted. Will continue to monitor the business climate and readdress City Council if the need arises.
Over the last 11 months, the Havasu Community Health Foundation Food Bank distributed 1,023,746 pounds of food, which is a 23% increase over the previous year. The Lake Havasu Area Chamber of Commerce was open for our local businesses throughout these 11 months and fielded untold numbers of phone calls helping scared business owners maneuver through the maze of assistance programs.
River Cities United Way, with the help of Unisource, Shoguns, and Chrysler Fiat Automobiles, and Valley of The Sun United Way secured over 140,000 in masks, 100 cases of hand sanitizer and over 500 gowns to supply. These essential PPE equipment supplied our region with necessary protection for our schools, our medical facilities, and the hospital to ensure safety of all our residents. With the help of Unisource we distributed over 120 energy saving light bulbs through the food bank, and delivered 3 no-touch thermometers to assisted living homes and the food bank.
The LHC Resource Alliance is thankful to the community for allowing us the honor to help you during these times. We are still meeting regularly, and our individual organizations are here to help you with business resources, social service support, health and food essentials and more.
